ACKNOWLEDGED
Who draws the map, and what does it leave out?
Students spend six lessons on how a legacy survives or gets lost, then build a Legacy Map of a real place and write the Mapmaker's Statement that says why that legacy belongs on it.

Lessons 1 and 6 are shared across all four subjects. In between, each subject's four lessons build on each other, toward what that subject contributes to the final product.

THE PRODUCT
One map, four ways to tell it
Each student picks a person and a legacy to map, themselves or someone they choose. By the gallery they have a map of a real place carrying the details of that life, and a written statement saying why it belongs on the map.
Students who take more than one subject build one map, not four. Each subject adds a section to the same Mapmaker's Statement.

PACING
When to run it
Unacknowledged is flexible. You can run it any time of year and shape the pacing to fit your school schedule: start earlier in the year, stretch the days out, or run it whenever it makes the most sense for your students.
If you're entering the national contest, the only date to plan around is May 31, when student work is due. If you're not entering, Unacknowledged stands completely on its own.
